Kristina Solum

Kristina Solum is a Senior Technical Advisor with over 18 years of experience designing, evaluating and implementing education projects. She is an educator and teacher trainer, and routinely designs and delivers capacity-strengthening workshops for stakeholders in countries around the globe. She has extensive experience serving as a principal investigator on national early grade reading studies including leading the research design process, facilitating enumerator and ministry of education stakeholder trainings, writing evaluation reports and presenting findings for decision-making to funders and key stakeholders in 11 countries and developing early grade reading assessments in 20 languages, including adaptations using sign languages.

Through her commitment to equitable and inclusive education, Ms. Solum has adapted the Early Grade Reading Assessment (EGRA) to include accommodations for students with disabilities as well as developed new subtasks to assess sign language knowledge for students who are deaf. She has led numerous webinars, is currently drafting a white paper on best practices for assessing students with disabilities and contributed to the USAID-funded Universal Design for Learning to Help All Children Read – Promoting Literacy for Learning with Disabilities Toolkit.
