Bindu Sunny

Bindu Sunny is an education specialist with over 15 years of experience designing and leading data, evidence and programmatic interventions working at the intersections of health and child protection in the humanitarian and development sectors. More recently, she worked with UNESCO’s Education Section for Migration, Displacement and Emergencies (EME) leading their education in emergencies data portfolio, including research on refugee inclusion in low- and middle-income countries.

She has previously worked with UNICEF’s Office of Research, Innocenti, leading their education research on the impact of non-state actors on education and family-friendly policies on childcare provision in South Asia. She has also worked with AMREF and World Education leading their health and education portfolios in Sub-Saharan Africa and India, respectively.

She received her PhD in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine where she examined the linkages between schooling (progression and dropout), health and life outcomes (sexual debut, pregnancy and marriage) among school-age children and adolescents in northern Malawi.

She holds a Masters in International Development from Brandeis University and an undergraduate degree in Economics from St. Stephen’s College in Delhi, India.
