Sophia Gorgodze

Sophia Gorgodze is an Associate Professor of Education at Ilia State University, Tbilisi, Georgia. Previously, she served as the Director of the National Assessment and Examinations Center (2018-2023) and the Director of the National Teacher Professional Development Center (2007-2010).

She has worked in education as a teacher, trainer and consultant with various national and international organizations, including at the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) as part of the team that supported the Training Educators for Excellence (TEE) Activity in the Republic of Georgia. Sophia has received her M.Ed. from Harvard University and her PhD from Ilia State University.

In 2022, Sophia was elected as a member of the Standing Committee for the International Association for the Evaluation of Educational Achievement. Her main research interests are in educational policymaking, educational assessment and teacher education.
