Sophia D’Angelo

Sophia is a former teacher and teacher trainer with over 12 years of experience working in development and humanitarian contexts. As an independent consultant, Sophia is committed to using research and evidence to engage local stakeholders in the design and implementation of localized programs and policies that uphold the right to quality education for all children and adolescents, regardless of gender, disability, race, ethnicity or refugee status.

Her research often explores the nexus of education and health, especially in relation to the wellbeing of students and teachers, social-emotional learning and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS). She has worked for the public and private sector as well as multilateral organizations, including the World Bank, GPE, the Inter-Agency Network for Education in Emergencies (INEE) and Sesame Workshop.

She has published academic journal articles, reports, policy briefs and guidance notes on diverse topics, including inclusive education, gender norms, foundational skills, curriculum reform, early childhood care and education, youth development, teacher training and educational technology. Sophia has a PhD and MPhil in education from the University of Cambridge’s The REAL Centre (Research in Equitable Access and Learning) and a BA from Princeton University.
