WASHINGTON D.C, November 9, 2023 - On behalf of the Global Partnership for Education, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the people of Nepal following the earthquake that struck Karnali Province on November 3, killing over 150 people and injuring hundreds.

The earthquake has had devastating impacts on communities, families and children, damaging over 4,000 homes and destroying more than 200 schools in the hardest hit areas. Another 400 schools are partially damaged. More than 130,000 children live in the affected areas and their access to learning is compromised.

Our hearts and thoughts are with the people of Nepal during this difficult time. GPE is coordinating with partners in Nepal to assess the best way to provide support and restore students’ access to learning as quicky as possible.
