WASHINGTON DC, April 25, 2023 - I am profoundly concerned by the violence in Sudan and express my solidarity with all those affected by the recent fighting, in particular children, whose education is being severely disrupted by the hostilities.

Children are always among the hardest hit by violence, with fighting abruptly suspending their education as schools are attacked, shuttered or used as shelters and going to class becomes too dangerous.

The right to education must be protected at all times. Without education, children’s future and that of Sudan hang in the balance.

GPE is in contact with partners in Sudan to assess the impact of the violence on the education sector and determine how we can best support their efforts. We echo calls by the international community to stop the fighting and to allow normal life, including education, to resume as soon as possible.
