Statement by Charles North, acting CEO of the Global Partnership for Education on the attacks against a boys’ school and an education center in Kabul
Afghanistan, March 2014

WASHINGTON DC, 19 April 2022 - The Global Partnership for Education condemns in the strongest possible terms the brutal attack against the Abdul Rahim Shahid high school and the Mumtaz education center in western Kabul today.

At least six people were reportedly killed in the blasts and many more have been injured, with some in critical condition. Casualty numbers are likely to rise.

The Global Partnership for Education extends its sincere condolences to the affected families.

Schools are never a target, and children’s right to education must be upheld. Children must be protected at all times, no matter who they are or where they come from.

Violence against schools is unacceptable and represents a clear threat to Afghanistan’s stability and development, compounding decades of vicious conflict.
