The attack against the ‘Government Science School’ in Nigeria’s Katsina state on December 11 is an outrage. Hundreds of children who attended the school are still unaccounted for.

The Global Partnership for Education condemns this violent act. Children and schools must be protected at all times – never targeted. Attacks against schools are a grave violation of children’s rights and add to the countless obstacles that children in Nigeria face to get an education. Nigeria is home to one in every five out-of-school children in the world.

I extend my most sincere sympathies to the families affected by this tragic event.
