WASHINGTON D.C., December 1, 2022 – Laura Frigenti has today taken up her role as Chief Executive Officer of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE). Following a global search and competitive selection process, Ms. Frigenti fills the position left vacant following the departure of Alice Albright, who was appointed by the United States government to lead the Millennium Challenge Corporation.

Ms. Frigenti’s wide-ranging leadership roles in global development have included Chief of Staff at the World Bank, Director General of the Italian Agency for Development and Cooperation and, in her previous role, Global Head of International Development Assistance Services Institute at KPMG.

Ms. Frigenti joins GPE at a pivotal moment, with learning losses spiraling as war, the pandemic and economic upheaval push the global education crisis to the brink. “I believe that education is the great equalizer and the most effective investment in a country’s growth and stability. I am very grateful for the privilege to serve in this role to help every child realize their potential through quality education,” said Ms. Frigenti.

In addition to getting a clear sense from staff on GPE's progress against its objectives, Ms. Frigenti's immediate priorities will include securing the resources the partnership needs to continue supporting countries’ ambitions to get all children learning and harnessing the momentum from the Transforming Education Summit to build the political will necessary to end the learning crisis.

“Education ministers have called on GPE to help them reimagine education systems. To accomplish that, we need transformation at scale and collective action,” Ms. Frigenti said. “Meeting this moment will take all of us—and a global commitment to act boldly together for the next generation. That is why GPE’s unique partnership model is right for these times.”
