WASHINGTON D.C./AMMAN, April 18, 2024 – The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) has welcomed the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan as its latest partner country today.

“GPE is delighted to welcome Jordan as a partner committed to quality and inclusive education,” said Laura Frigenti, GPE Chief Executive Officer. “Jordan has been generously providing education to all children on its territory, including refugees. Our partnership will reinforce the Kingdom’s efforts to give every boy and girl, including refugees, the opportunity to learn and contribute to a more peaceful and prosperous future.”

Jordan hosts the world’s second-highest number of refugees per capita. The high number of refugee children has increased the demand for education, greatly overwhelming the capacity of the national education system. While Jordan made significant strides in increasing enrollment in basic education, inequality in access to learning remains strong.

With support from GPE, the Ministry of Education will develop a new education sector strategy in consultation with all relevant stakeholders to define priorities for the coming years, including the provision of increased domestic financing for education. To bring about a transformational change, the country will be working with GPE and partners to ensure that all school-aged children, including refugees and other vulnerable groups, have access to quality learning.

“The Government of Jordan is committed to ensuring inclusive and equitable education for all school-aged children, including refugees and other vulnerable groups,” said Dr Azmi Mahafzah, Jordan’s Minister of Education. “Through this partnership, we hope to strengthen our commitment to quality and inclusive education and help unlock children’s potential, regardless of their legal status.”

The Kingdom of Jordan is eligible for a GPE Multiplier grant and a system capacity grant.
