GPE Acting CEO Charles North condemns attacks on school in Myanmar

The Global Partnership for Education strongly condemns the violent attack on a school in the Sagaing Region of Myanmar, killing at least 13 people, including seven children.

Attacks against children and education facilities are unacceptable. Children caught up in conflict are not and must never be targets. My deepest sympathies go out to the victims, their families, and all those affected by this horrific incident.

The international community must do more to prevent attacks on education and protect children caught up in wars. In Myanmar, reports of attacks on schools have dramatically increased from approximately 10 in 2020 to 190 in 2021.

GPE remains committed to support a quality education for all children in Myanmar, working in close collaboration with education partners.
