Thanks to US$35 million in grants from the World Bank and GPE ($30 million from the World Bank and $5 million from GPE), The Gambia launched its Education Sector Support Program to promote early childhood development, and boost access to basic education and madrassas.
The Minister of basic and secondary Education acknowledged the contribution of the World Bank and GPE to the country's effort to fill the gaps in its education system. Curriculum for all core subjects will be revised, and new textbooks will be printed and distributed to every school in the country. The project will also provide for the construction of 40 schools in remote areas. The program aims to improve the quality of teaching and learning outcomes.
