Washington, DC, December 19, 2022. The Global Partnership for Education (GPE) approved the extension of the world’s largest education advocacy fund, Education Out Loud. The extension runs through mid-2027 with an additional US$60 million, bringing the total funding to US$133 million.
The extension recognizes the importance of civil society organizations in shaping education policies that assure inclusive and equitable quality learning in low-income countries.
While governments in those countries have made impressive strides to extend quality education to more children, civil society plays an important role in building public support and monitoring commitments. Civil society is also often better attuned to the needs of marginalized communities.
“Strong civil society engagement is critical to transform education systems,” said Charles North, Deputy CEO of the Global Partnership for Education. “Through Education Out Loud, GPE supports civil society in more than 60 countries, ensuring that governments are accountable to their citizens.”
Education Out Loud is managed by Oxfam IBIS, the Danish branch of Oxfam International.
“We’re extremely proud to continue as grant agent for Education Out Loud. The GPE Board’s approval is a strong recognition of the robust design of the program and the progress in its implementation, “ said Lars Koch, Secretary General , Oxfam IBIS.
Four globally renowned research organizations have also joined Education Out Loud as global learning partners:
- Accountability Research Center (ARC)
- Institute of Development Studies (IDS)
- UNESCO’s International Institute for Education Planning (IIEP)
- A consortium of Management for Development Foundation (MDF) and Australian Council for Education Research (ACER).
They will carry out strategic research across the entire portfolio of Education Out Loud and the outcomes of their research will inform the practices of Education Out Loud grantees and other advocacy and accountability practitioners.
