DOHA, May 17, 2023 – After a 10-day visit to the Gulf, Laura Frigenti, CEO of the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), wraps up her mission with an audience with Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, UN SDG Advocate and Chairperson and Founder of the Education Above All Foundation (EAA) where they discussed the urgent need to ensure a quality education for all as a foundation for peace and prosperity.

While in Qatar, Frigenti also met with other leaders from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Qatar Fund for Development and Education Above All Foundation.

I am delighted to further strengthen GPE’s partnership with The State of Qatar and with EAA. As traditional donors retreat from education, Gulf countries are showing important leadership that will help more of the world’s most vulnerable children get in school and learn,” said Frigenti.

Since 2012, EAA and GPE have jointly supported a number of projects in Chad, Comoros, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan and Yemen to enroll over 2.7 million out-of-school children into quality primary education.

In March 2022, Education Above All joined forces with GPE to help provide equitable, inclusive and quality education for millions of out-of-school children around the world and GPE welcomed the first ever $20 million contribution from the Qatar Fund For Development (QFFD) through EAA.

Building on a long tradition of generosity, the new pledge from The State of Qatar through Education Above All exemplifies growing regional leadership on global education efforts.

During her visit Frigenti also visited the Assalam schools, which are an initiative of the Education Above All Foundation, that provides children with access to quality education. Many of the children in the Assalam schools come from countries affected by fragility and conflict. Over half of all GPE funding goes to fragile and conflict-affected countries.

Working with the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), Qatar can draw on their innovation and financial resources to help leverage investment in schooling in lower-income countries, blending public and private funding for education where it is needed most.
