The 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) takes place in New York City next week. We’ve put together a list of some of the key education-related events during the very busy week (GPE events are in orange). Last year, the Education Commission launched its report “The Learning Generation” at UNGA, and this year, another high-level education event will take center stage on September 20. Both GPE Board Chair Julia Gillard and GPE CEO Alice Albright will be in New York.

One of the main sessions at this year’s UNGA, attended by UN Secretariat-General Antonio Guterres and several Heads of State, this session will address the alarming education crisis the world is facing and seek commitments from both developed and developing countries to step up financing to education and give the more than 260 million children and youth a chance at an education. The session is co-hosted by France, Norway, Malawi and Senegal, and co-organized by the Education Commission, GPE, The Malala Fund, ONE, UNICEF and UNESCO. Presidents Macron of France, Sall of Senegal and Mutharika of Malawi, and Prime Minister Solberg of Norway have confirmed their attendance.
