Rosangela Berman Bieler

Rosangela Berman-Bieler is a Brazilian journalist. She has a Master’s Degree from the University of Salamanca on Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities. As a quadriplegic, Berman-Bieler has been a disability rights advocate for more than 35 years. Rosangela joined UNICEF in February 2011 as Senior Adviser on Children with Disabilities and is currently serving as Chief of the UNICEF Disability Section under the Gender, Rights and Civic Engagement, Program Division, in New York Headquarters.

Living in the U.S. since 1995, her previous employers include the World Bank, IADB, UNDP and other UN and international agencies. Rosangela’s expertise on disability issues covers areas such as Inclusive Development & Public Policy, HIV-AIDS, Post-Conflict, Poverty Reduction, Media, Gender and Human Rights. She is also the founder of the Inter-American Institute on Disability and Inclusive Development created to promote social-economic and political inclusion in the Latin America Region, and also in Portuguese speaking countries in Africa and Asia. IDDI played a key role on the development of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).
