Esther Gacigi

Esther Gacigi is an educator with over 3 years’ experience working in underserved communities in Kenya to improve the quality of education.

She specializes in climate education where she builds the agency of students, teachers and the community to take climate action. In 2022-2023, she was a Teach for Kenya fellow at Kwa Njenga Primary, where she led the Kwa Njenga climate education champions project. The project engaged students to understand climate change and come up with solutions for climate impacts in the community.

To address learning poverty, learners implemented an innovative gardening solution and collaborated with teachers and the community to install 2 greenhouses at the school where learners continue to plant vegetables. Using a custom module, Esther also engaged more than 180 teachers to bring climate education into the classroom.

To scale her work, Esther co-founded the Pan-African Climate Education (PACE) Network with educators from Uganda, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. The PACE Network aims to bring together climate educators across Africa to learn, share and collaborate.

Esther is now the Senior Associate for Climate Education and Leadership at Teach for All where she continues to engage teachers within the network to implement climate education in their context.
