The United Kingdom and GPE
The United Kingdom is a founding partner and top bilateral donor to GPE. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) is responsible for the development of global education policy and programs.
The UK’s emerging priority areas are supporting economic transformation, tackling unsustainable debt, empowering women and girls, supporting conflict prevention, and unlocking climate finance.
The UK has a long history of supporting education and has been among the leading funders of primary education in the OECD-DAC.
In 2021, the UK and Kenya co-hosted the landmark Global Education Summit in London. The event raised over US $4 billion in pledges for GPE, including a UK pledge of £430 million for 2021-2026.
The UK chairs the GPE Performance, Impact and Learning Committee.
