Australia and GPE
Australia is a long-standing partner of GPE, having joined the partnership in 2008. To date, Australia has contributed close to US$550 million, making it the 8th largest donor to the GPE Fund.
In 2021, Australia pledged AUD180 million for GPE’s 4th Replenishment, covering the period 2021-2025, with a strong focus on the Indo-Pacific region and girls’ education.
Australia is an active partner at country level through participating in local education groups and acting as coordinating agency in several countries, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.
Australia views the support of a strong education foundation in partner countries as a critical enabler for the delivery of its International Development Policy. This policy aims to build resilience in the Indo-Pacific region and articulates a strong focus on climate and gender equality.
