In 2019, GPE and UNHCR commissioned a historical mapping of educational support for refugees. The mapping included three case studies – Bangladesh, Turkey, and Rwanda – and featured two objectives: (i) to document what factors in the early stages of a refugee response seem to determine whether refugees are included into national education systems, and (ii) to identify factors for further study that could shed light on essential actions – be they policy or programmatic – that lead to greater effectiveness and sustainability of refugee education responses.
This webinar will present preliminary findings and comparative analysis from the three case studies. Additionally, the research will present emerging findings on the potential points of convergence between governments and their education sector partners to more effectively address the educational needs of displaced populations and the communities that host them. The hope is that this research will contribute findings that are meaningful for the Global Compact on Refugees Plan of Action.
