As leaders from around the world gather in New York for the 79th United Nations General Assembly, GPE is working with partners to ensure education remains high on the agenda.

Multi-stakeholder partnerships in Education and Assistive Technology: Transforming education and employment opportunities for children and young people with disabilities

  • Co-organizers: Government of the United States, Government of Rwanda, ATscale, the Global Partnership for Assistive Technology, the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), the International Disability Alliance (IDA), Global Disability Innovation Hub (GDI Hub), UNOPS, and UNICEF
  • Overview: The session will feature a diverse lineup of speakers and will be structured to encourage dynamic and engaging storytelling, with a focus on real-world solutions. Through keynote interventions and panel discussions, seasoned professionals will explore challenges related to assistive technology (AT), particularly in education. The dialogue will also highlight how multilateral partnerships can create scalable systems to ensure broader AT access in education. Young people with lived experience will provide compelling narratives, emphasizing the critical role AT plays in their educational journeys.

Digital Transformation for Education: Technology for Education Framework Launch Event and Workshop

  • Location: American-Scandinavian Foundation, 58 Park Avenue, New York
  • Overview: As a contribution of the Education Sector to the Global Digital Compact launch during the Summit of the Future, UNESCO, UNICEF, ITU and GPE have come together with the support of the diverse members of the Global Education Coalition to publish a common framework for leveraging technology to improve the quality, equity and inclusivity of education systems globally. The launch of the framework and workshop seek to encourage learning across peers and drive change to strengthen educational outcomes in regions that need it most.

The event will be divided into two sessions:


Session 1: Launch of the common framework for digital transformation in education

  • Time: 08:30–09:30
  • Co-organizers: UNESCO, UNICEF, ITU, GPE, and the steering members of the Digital Transformation Collaborative
  • Overview: This session will launch the common framework for digital transformation in education, co-created by the partners of the Digital Transformation Collaborative (DTC). In addition to featuring a high-level panel discussion with perspectives from leaders of UNESCO, UNICEF, GPE and ITU, as well as from Ministers of Education and Communication and steering members of the DTC, the session will call upon all actors engaged in digital transformation in education to commit to common principles, align with country-led objectives, and coordinate their efforts more efficiently, thereby avoiding duplication and ensuring that initiatives complement each other.

Session 2: Technology for quality education workshop

  • Time: 09:30-11:30
  • Co-organizers: GPE, Cambridge and UNESCO
  • Overview: As we look towards 2030, it is imperative that we think outside the box to leverage rapid and effective change in education. This workshop aims to bring multiple stakeholder groups together to discuss and strategize on the transformative potential of technology in education. By fostering collaboration and innovation, we can create a roadmap for integrating technology into education systems, ensuring that no child is left behind in the digital age. The workshop will catalyze connections and conversations around the potential use of technology to leverage education transformation in low- and lower middle-income countries.

Meaningful youth engagement on a global scale: Time to deliver

  • Overview: On the sidelines of the Summit of the Future, this panel invites decision-makers to consider young people's insights as we strive for a better now and a protected tomorrow, with a focus on climate action. Kicking off a series of further events, the panel will highlight successful strategies for boosting youth participation through intergenerational collaboration. The session will conclude with key takeaways to propel this initiative.

Investing in tomorrow: The African Union Year of Education catalyzing progress for Africa and the world

  • Overview: Mid-year commemoration of the African Union Year of Education. The forum will drive forward the agenda of building resilient education systems, ensuring that education remains a priority for inclusive and lifelong learning across the continent.

Out-of-School children and youth: Integral to the Pact of the Future

  • Co-organizers: IEFG, Education.Org, Geneva EiE Hub, GPE
  • Overview: This event explores innovative solutions and policies to address the urgent issue of out-of-school children and youth. Speakers will be at the ministerial level to center governments in this discussion. Other participants include representatives from multilateral agencies, foundations, civil society organizations, youth organizations, academia and educational institutions.
