The Sindh Minister of Education in Pakistan officially launched the province’s new education sector plan this week. The plan, prepared using Global Partnership for Education processes and guidelines, was endorsed by the Local Education Group (government, development partners and stakeholders) in March this year. The Global Partnership for Education allocated a US$66 million grant last June to support its implementation in addition to strong contributions from domestic funding and development partners active in education, including UNICEF, the World Bank, CIDA, DFID, the EU, USAID and non-governmental organizations.
The Sindh education sector plan aims to increase access to education for the most marginalized children, in particular girls, improve how much children learn in school, and strengthen the governance and accountability of the education sector.
