Did you know that Bhutan has created the Gross National Happiness (GNH) index? Instead of simply measuring national income or the values of exports and imports like other countries, Bhutan decided to include happiness as a measure of development. Education is one of nine domains that the GNH index analyzes, because “education contributes to the knowledge, values, creativity, skills, human capital, and civic sensibility of citizens. It strongly boosts a nation’s economy and enables efficient and wise decision-making” says the GNH website.
Bhutan joined the Global Partnership in 2009, and today in particular, on the International Day of Happiness, we are very happy to support the country in bringing more children to school and giving them a quality education.
