Today, the White House is launching the Let Girls Learn initiative, which gathers girl empowerment efforts by various US agencies under one umbrella.

The initiative aims to:

1.    Increase access to quality education for the 62 million girls out of school by providing safe access to schools for both students and teachers even during crises or conflict.

2.    Reduce barriers to education, including early pregnancy, malnutrition, gender-based violence, and tuition and other costs of attending school.

3.    Empower adolescent girls by advancing their rights, training them to be leaders and providing them with financial and digital literacy.

Let Girls Learn focuses initially on 31 countries that have shown a national commitment to education as exemplified by their membership in the Global Partnership for Education.

The Global Partnership supports the initiative and has issued the following commitment:

"The Global Partnership for Education will facilitate exchanges between national level civil society coalitions funded by GPE and the global network of developing country leaders to support the exploration of joint efforts to improve girls’ education.

These exchanges may also support effective dissemination of information, tools and opportunities which can strengthen the work of national level girls’ education networks."
