To strengthen primary education in Kenya, GPE releases KSh407 million of the KSh8.84 billion in grant that the country has secured. This World Bank-supervised project will cover 4,000 schools, which will be required to adhere to management and accountability guidelines in an effort to capitalize on progress already underway.

In 2016, the government distributed 4.8 million textbooks to more than 20,000 primary schools in a bid to improve literacy, and thousands of teachers as well as school administrators have received performance assessment training. In addition, education officials hope to engage private schools to make sure these children also benefit from the improved curriculum.
