On Wednesday the Board of Directors of the Global Partnership for Education approved US$260.2 million in new funding for six countries - Central African Republic, Guinea, Guyana, Kenya, Lao PDR and Nigeria. These grants will build on each country’s prior achievements and will be used to help implement their national education plans.
Julia Gillard, Board Chair of the Global Partnership for Education, says children in these six countries, particularly the most marginalized, will benefit from better infrastructure and learning materials, better trained teachers, and strengthened school management systems overall.
Priya Manickchand, Education Minister from Guyana, says the US$1.7 million education grant will be aimed at improving the quality of early childhood education in her country, in particular for the poorest and most disadvantaged children in remote regions.
